This episode I review Walt Disney Treasures: On the War Front. So hop on your pogo stick to your closest mp3 player and give it a listen.
News Golgo 13 TV series greenlit Fist of the North Star OVA's announced Other stuff happened as well this year. JibJab is there Review Walt Disney Treasures: On the War Front This is a great set for history buffs or vintage Disney fans. I highly recommend it. This set is chock full of training and PSA cartoons made for the war effort for WWII. I love the Disney educational videos. That's how I learnt about venereal disease (apparently the video was deleted from Google Video, so this was the best I could do). That's how I also learned about the story of menstruation: The promos played are: Eeeper's Choice Anime Pacific Chibi Tokyo The comedy bit is Wilford Brimley Hates Your Diabetes by Smart Bomb Radio The song is The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson You can contact me at upapaddle@gmail.com or go to the podcast site at upapaddle.com. Up a Paddle - Episode 49 - War Stories, Part II
This episode I review Leji Matsumoto's The Cockpit. If this episode seems a little off, it's because half of it was recorded before Christmas and the other half after. I hope you all had a pleasant holiday. I sure did. The News W00t is 2007's word of the year Woot! Gokusen 3 set to air April 2008 Woot! Itsudatte My Santa - recalled. Meh! Nintendo along with Gamestop now selling IOU's. (how's that for up to the minute reporting?) The Hobbit movie finally confirmed. Woot! of relief Chow Yun Fat is Master Roshi in the Dragonball movie. (Woot!?!) Science time. Trees Killed the Woolly Mammoth? Damn dirty trees! Rumor Roundup Arrested Development Movie? Random Fact On average, a child uses 730 crayons by their 10th birthday. Conspiracy Theory Corner - Chupathingy redux But cryptzoologist fans, don't worry, There has been a unicorn siting. Also, another long thought extinct beast was spotted in the Wild. Duke Nukem Forever has a teaser trailer out. What I'm playing Mario and Sonic: At the Olympic Games Fun minigames. Some are a little complex. Get you going, pumped Super Mario Galaxy It sucks. Worst game of the year. Except instead of worst, best (stay tuned for more in that regard). This is no Super Mario Sunshine my friend. What I'm watching Just finished From the Earth to the Moon. I got in on a Black Friday sale for this one. It's still cheap, though and well worth it For a brief interlude Cthulhu Claus is Coming to Town by Smart Bomb Radio Random Fact A fear of long words is, ironically, called "Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia" The Cockpit http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=757 This one's spoilerriffic as well, so do yourself a favor and watch the shows first. There are 20 minute OVAs and they are well worth your time. The Angry Dome World War II games are the tool of the devil Random Fact An analysis of mammalian bite force, corrected for body size, shows that the Tasmanian Devil has the strongest bite of any living mammal. The song was Christmas Here on Mars by Bubble. Up a Paddle - Episode 47 - Double Double Toil and Bubble
If you count the specials, I've done 52 episodes (including one over again). Yay me. Yes, this is as good as it gets. I hope to hit the 52 mark by April just so I can say I have a biweekly podcast (about). So what better way to start fake episode 52 but with some retractions and corrections Here's the link to the Canadian Heritage Minute that I promised many podcasts ago. http://www.histori.ca/minutes/minute.do?id=10123 Also, Kentmas went well this year. It was again celebrated successfully by one person. Oh, and this guy:
Oh Podcast Pete, you scoundrel! Pirates don't wear jeans! I read some comments from Eeeper (Eeeper's Choice) and Dane (Anime Pacific). Well, I paraphrase their comments. I go off on a rant about Canadian prices not adjusting to match the value of our dollar, and then our Dollar goes down again. Figures. Also, I give a quick shoutout to Anime Roundtable for playing my promo recently. News The WGA is on strike. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34700 I give a brief summary of the Writers' position in this whole mess and I talk about what this means to you, the viewer. Here's the video with the writers from The Office http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6hqP0c0_gw Sony removing backwards compatibility from PS3, because they want to sell more PS3 games. Rumor: PS2 price drop imminent The Loonie keeps soaring higher and higer (spoke too soon) Expect a Guitar Hero III shortage for the Wii, says Activision Both Nana live action movies have been licensed by Viz Media. Casablanca, Other Hollywood Movies Adapted into Manga Recent Adventure in Otakudom The Otaku in the Mist. Reviews Blood - The Last Vampire It sucks. Get it? Because it's about vampires and ... Actually, it was all right, if not a little on the short side. The Black Cauldron. It sucks. Get it? It's a call back ... Well, it's not bad but it's not particularly good. It does have an awesome villain, though. Promos played Anime Pacific http://animepacific.blogspot.com Anime World Order http://animeworldorder.com Weekly Anime Review http://weeklyanimereview.com Contact Info Email: Upapaddle@gmail.com Podcast site: http://upapaddle.com Blog: http://www.kentcer.com Song Digg the Code by Geoff Smith Random Facts Paul Revere didn't actually say "The British are Coming! Up a Paddle - Episode 46 - Everybody Yes!
Or It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year It's Kentmas Time! Kentmas Time is here! Time for ... Video Games and Anime ... and Candy! Lots and lots of Candy! I gave this episode a different title in the audio but screw it, this one's better. Also, in this episode I tried out a little something different. I used some music loops in order to mix things up. Please comment or email if you like or dislike the loops and which ones I should keep. News Teppan Toppa Gurren Lagann Game coming out -- in Japan that is for DS Here's the Trailer Yeah, if you want up to the minute news (like Nova - one of the English Teaching programs in Japan going under, leaving its teachers high and dry, listen to a real podcast. Like Anime Pacific). Here's the Nova Story Here is Anime Pacific on the Nova Story Take the next news item for example Lucky Star has been licensed by Bandai. This story was broken by Anime Genesis. So check them up. They know the anime news even before Anime News Network does. Good job guys. Here's the Anime Genesis announcement. Here's the page showing that the show has been licensed: (a brief search didn't turn this up on ANN) Someday I'll get a scoop. Unfortunately, it will probably be Smurfs related. Japanese Animation is Destroying American Society. The above is an editorial I briefly mention. Also, I would like to point out how relevant the whole seizure thing is. This week in Smash - The big blue guy is in Smash Brothers http://smashbros.com That's right: King Dedede from the Kirby Series is in Smash Brothers Oh yeah, So is Sonic the Hedgehog. Big news indeed. Also, Smash Brothers Brawl has been delayed until February. My Smash Brother Predictions This is the portion of the show where I go off on a tangent about possible characters in Random Fact - The Legend of the Jack - o - Latern Short version: A guy named Jack (vagabond if I ever met one) tricked the Devil by getting him to go up a tree and then carved a cross to prevent him from coming down. He finally let the Devil down after the Devil promised to no longer tempt him (presumably with candy and loose women). So Jack dies and Heaven won't let him in (too many cavities if you know what I mean). The devils still ticked off at him so he can't get into Hell either. He's forced to wander all eternity. The Devil gives him a single ember to light his way and so Jack hollows out a turnip to keep it safe. Then he realized turnips were stupid and got a pumpkin. I'm really wishing I would have put this version in the podcast as it is way funnier than what I said. Just imagine me saying the above in my irritating voice and your set. Also through in a few references to pirates and Smurfs for good measure. Recent Releases (past month) Halo 3 Legend of Zelda - Phantom Hourglass Jungle Book: Platinum Edition Corner Gas: Season 4 This week's releases Bleach Box Set 1 Hajime no Ippo Box Set 1 Hajime no Ippo Box Set 2 Phoenix Vol 1 Guitar Hero III What I'm watching/playing Legend of Zelda - Phantom Hourglass - Just finished it, it was glorious. Will review in a future podcast Barefoot Gen 1 and 2. Boy, If you are ever worried that you are too upbeat and happy, watch these films. They're jarring, to be quite frank. The first one is set during the bombing of Hiroshima and it follows Gen and his mother as they attempt to survive. I'll be reviewing this in episode 48. Finally, I'm watching Monster. I've decided that this season of Anime doesn't really have anything that I'm particularly interested in following (except for Genshiken and Bamboo Blade) so I'm taking this opportunity to check out slightly older series. Next up on the queue are Touch and Hajime no Ippo. (In addition to the shows on the current poll, of course). Monster makes a good horror anime to watch for Halloween. Random Fact Pumpkins are a fruit that originated in Central America. Reviews This week I review The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Well part of it anyway. I'm going to focus on the story of Icabod. That's Icabod Crane. As in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The Mr. Toad is also a good, worthwile cartoon to watch, but it isn't creepy, kooky or altogether spooky, so it will have to wait for another time. Next, Kakurenbo - Hide and Seek This is a 25 minute ova. It's CG with cel shading and it looks sharp. It looks for the most part like traditional 2d animation. This ova is about a game of Hide and Seek, with deadly consequences. Both shows are well worth watching. Random Fact The world's fastest time to carve a face into a pumpkin is 54.72 seconds, by Stephen Clarke (USA), on October 23, 2001 (source: Guinness World Records) Promos Played: Dave and Joel's Fast Karate for the Gentlemen Anime Pacific Eeeper's Choice Closing Song Halloween is Awesome by Hyper Nonsense. Contact Info Email: upapaddle@gmail.com Blog: http://kentcer.com Thanks for listening! * Dont mind me I'm just claiming this site in Technorati Technorati Profile A new episode should be out this weekend. Also, I'm brainstorming a new promo and another YouTube video.

Up a Paddle - Episode 45 - Sheep that Pass in the Night
This week I talk about the death of Geneon, the Canadian Dollar reaching Parity with the US Dollar, upcoming Fall Anime, and previous Spring and Summer anime. I also review Ringing Bell and One Stormy Night, two similar but very different children's movies. News Geneon to stop production Note: I said November 1st as the stop date, it's actually Nov. 6. Correction to follow in upcoming episode Rock band coming out Nov 3 Canadian Dollar on parity with states ... what does it mean. Nintendo offers free Wiimote Jackets Fall Anime Preview Genshiken Season Two Bamboo Shoot G/R Giant Robo Spring/Summer Wrap up Potemayo Zombie Loan Lucky Star Random Fact Giraffes have no vocal cords. Rant Parking Lots - The current bane of my existence Random Fact The sweat drops drawn in cartoon comic strips are called pleuts. Reviews In this episode I review two children's movie about sheep. I would have reservations about showing either of them to children. Show them Bad Sheep instead. Not the Chris Farley/David Spade vehicle but this one. . That'll really mess them up almost as much as showing them Ringing Bell. Ringing Bell (Chirin no Suzu). This one is about a sheep that wants to become a big bad wolf so that he won't be prey any more. Very violent and disturbing. * I said I'd post the YouTube videos for this movie but apparently it has been removed. Here's an AMV: Ringing Bell - Animal Chirin has Become. It's not that hard to find the movie if you really want to. One Stormy Night (Arashi no Yoru Ni). This is the story of a sheep and a wolf that becomes friends. It's pretty good and I give it the Kentcer Seal of Approval. Here's the AMV I mentioned (well, a One Stormy Night AMV, anyway): Arashi No Yoru Ni - Star You can email with comments to upapaddle@gmail.com. Up a Paddle - Episode 42 - On a wing and a prayer
Nuts. I almost made 4 weeks in a row on time. Oh well. And just to warn you all, my schedule is going to get insane starting next week. I'm bumping up the number of University classes I'm taking in an effort to speed up the degree process. I will still be working, albeit at halftime.
